Shelby's JDMS Journal of Events
March 2000 to present

1 Year 37 weeks - Ending November 24, 2001

Where has the time gone?!? I cannot believe I haven't updated this since June! I have no excuse except disorganization. I always think about doing it and think somehow in my mind I believe it will just happen by osmosis.  Huh. Guess I need to do it the old fashioned way!

Shelby went to see Dr. J in October. She has been without Prednisone since the second week of August. So far so good, no relapse. The only notable issue is still her skin inflammation. Her cuticles are usually pretty inflamed and turn hard and crusty. We keep those trimmed, otherwise they would grow right over Shelby's fingernails. You can still see quite a bit of inflammation near her fingertips, but her knuckles have no "active" lesions on them. She does still bear the scars of previous lesions, time will heal those we hope.

Physically, Shelby is as close to 100% as we can expect. Long term, we hope her strength, agility, and flexibility will improve. She's really quite graceful which is remarkable considering her family history. HAHA. She was involved in "instructional" volleyball this fall, and she's now active in Jazz/Tap dance which she LOVES! She is still seeing Amy, her PT, twice a week. Once per week they do water therapy, the other they do land therapy. Shelby really enjoys this, we are very lucky that we have a therapist like Amy. Their rapport is really important to Shelby's recovery and it shows in her improvement over the past year and a half.

Shelby is busy in 4th grade. She struggles with certain aspects of school, but overall we think she's doing just great.  For Halloween, Shelby dressed as a Cat. We did her makeup really cool, we'll have some pictures soon. Shelby took first place in her age group at the Chamber Fun Day, woo-hoo! Now, onward toward Christmas. We are making our lists and checking them twice. Shelby's anxious to put up the Christmas tree, and REAL anxious to make the trek to Iowa to see her Grandma, Grandpa, and cousins.

I put some new pictures up on the site, check them out.

Attention Pen Pals! Anyone who has e-mailed Shelby in the past, please send us your address again and keep in touch. We have a new computer now, and we lost all of our addresses off the old computer. Thanks!
